ONE OF OUR long-standing traditions here at the New Hampshire Union Leader is annually recognizing 40 residents who eagerly give their time and talents to volunteer pursuits that strengthen and enrichment communities all across New Hampshire.
These folks want to give back — many of them following in the footsteps of family members who set the example of community involvement throughout their childhoods. Others say they are thankful for community support they received growing up, and they want to continue that spirit of volunteerism and support for the next generation.
The 2024 Class of 40 Under Forty includes 22 women and 18 men from a cross-section of industries and varied personal backgrounds. They are honorees 881 through 920 in our 23rd year of celebrating the state’s inspiring young generation.
This year’s group includes one teenager, six people in their 20s, and 33 people in their 30s. They are business owners, public office holders, nonprofit founders and employees, city employees, and more.
In this special section, the honorees share, in their own words, why giving back is so important to them, advice they would share with their younger self, and some thoughts on why New Hampshire is great — and how it could be improved for their families and future generations.
Nominations for the 2024 Class were gathered last fall. Nominees had to be younger than age 40 and have lived in New Hampshire for at least the last three years. I’d like to congratulate them, and to thank each of them for taking the time to answer our questions and for coming into our office to have their photo taken by Union Leader photographer Jodie Andruskevich.
