New Hampshire home prices grew by the third-highest percentage in the nation in 2023, according to a new report out Monday.
Meanwhile, Nashua and Manchester were listed as the second and third most popular searches on the real estate website Zillow last year. Concord finished 10th.
Atlas Van Lines recently reported that the Granite State was the third most-popular state for its customers to move to last year.
“This is no surprise to anyone who’s been following the housing market in New Hampshire,” New Hampshire Realtors President Joanie McIntire said in an email Monday. “At the heart of our affordability crisis is a continuing inventory crisis, and we hope this is the year that lawmakers get serious about policies that incentivize housing production statewide.”
The various rankings point to a strong real estate market that pushed the statewide median price for a single-family home to a record $470,000 in 2023, according to the New Hampshire Realtors.
Home sales in New Hampshire fell 19% last year to levels not seen since 2011 as low inventory and high interest rates stymied many would-be buyers and sellers, the New Hampshire Union Leader reported recently.
“2023, I think, was really defined and characterized by inadequate inventory and very low availability and very difficult affordability both in terms of rents and home ownership,” Rob Dapice, executive director/CEO at New Hampshire Housing, said this month.
The New Jersey Real Estate Network reported that New Hampshire’s home prices grew by $31,160 from January 2023 through December 2023, a 7.49% increase.
Connecticut and Maine topped the list, with Rhode Island fifth, Massachusetts sixth and Vermont eighth, according to the research.
Connecticut, New Jersey and Massachusetts each grew by a larger dollar amount than New Hampshire among the top 10 highest-percentage states.
For Zillow, topping the search list was West Chester, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia.
As for where Atlas customers moved to in 2023, Maine and North Carolina outpaced New Hampshire.
“Atlas Van Lines’ statistics correlate with national data such as high inbound rates to hot housing markets in Maine and New Hampshire …,” the moving company said in a statement.
“North Carolina and Maine remain top-desired states from 2022 with New Hampshire making the largest jump from 10th to third,” Atlas said.
