William Eldor, 4, of Exeter, along with other children, was having a blast playing with a dreidel mascot at the Family Menorah Lighting held by Chabad of New Hampshire and PJ Library on the plaza in front of the New Hampshire State House on Thursday evening during the first night of Chanukah.
The first candle was lit, which will burn through the next day, jelly doughnuts from Brooklyn, N.Y., were on hand for noshing in addition to other goodies like gelt or chocolate coins, dreidels were provided to play with, and lots of Jewish and Israeli folk songs were played while people danced together.
Yoram Fleisher of Londonderry was on hand to help light the menorah and honor all those killed in Israel on Oct. 7 during the start of the war there with Hamas in Gaza. His brother Avi was killed on that day while there at a kibbutz that was very close to Gaza.
There were between 80-100 people at the event and members of the Jewish Federation of New Hampshire were also there.
