To the Editor: I recently took part in a roundtable meeting with members of Senator Maggie Hassan’s staff to discuss the importance of Medicare Advantage for me and other seniors in New Hampshire. As a beneficiary, as well as a retiree from the health insurance industry, I recognize and am grateful for the immense value, coverage, and cost savings Medicare Advantage provides — and why I wanted to voice my concerns about its future to the senator’s office.
Through Medicare Advantage, I not only see lower premiums and out-of-pocket costs, but I also enjoy access to wellness programs like SilverSneakers and a range of other activities and programs through my local YMCA.
A big reason why I’m able to stay so active and healthy is that Medicare Advantage covers these supplemental benefits—and having zero out-of-pocket expenses is definitely a major plus! I’m such a fan of these benefits that I’ve even convinced friends and family on Medicare Advantage to sign up for these programs.
I’ve heard that the government will soon be making decisions about Medicare Advantage that will have a direct impact on me and my coverage (as well as the coverage of tens of millions of other beneficiaries nationwide). As these decisions are made, New Hampshire’s elected officials in Congress—including Senators Hassan and Shaheen as well as Representatives Kuster and Pappas—should help ensure the program remains stable and properly supported for the foreseeable future.
