Matt Grzelcyk’s spear to Max Pacioretty’s groin will have his wallet feeling lighter. The NHL Department of Player Safety announced the Bruins defenseman was fined the CBA’s maximum allowable $5,000 for the incident that earned Grzelcyk a game misconduct and five-minute major in Boston’s 3-0 loss to the Washington Capitals on Saturday.

The incident occurred with 1:47 left in the first period, which left the Bruins shorthanded on the blue line for a majority of the game. Pacioretty was clearly in pain after getting speared and was hunched over as he left the ice. The Capitals forward returned in the second period.
